Online Dating

 


 

 

 

Has online dating become as acceptable among the public as it is being depicted by the media due to people's busy schedules and inability to find a mate that is truly compatible?

Survey Responses:  The survey was given to random people in order to see what people think about online dating and whether or not they've tried it. Graphs of this data is also linked on this page.                                                                           SecondLife Survey Responses: A small number of survey responses obtained from an interactive virtual chat world where online dating is rumored to be a popular past-time.  This also contains a video about people who have met through SecondLife and began dating.                                                                                               

Articles about Online Dating:  These articles represent both positive and negative aspects of online dating.

 

Online Dating Profiles: Our group decided to set up 2 different profiles in order to try to emerse ourselves into the online dating culture, and see what all the hype of online dating was/is about.

Commercials/Advertising:  See how online dating is being promoted as well as represented by commericals in popular media.  We have also chosen to include spoofs about online dating (to represent the public's view in contrast to the promotional commercials) and a video link about safety for those users who chose to date through the internet.

 

Popular Media:  As an assignment for our NCLC 350 Cyberculture's course, we were asked to pick a topic and show how it is represented in popular media.  Our group decided to use our online dating topic.  This was our first look into online dating through the eyes of popular media, it is also the source of links and connections to our class readings.

Flaws in Our Project:  This is where we placed all of our woes and issues we as a group discovered in our project.  By creating this page, we hoped to point out where we went wrong in our project so that if we were ever to re-visit this assignment or if others were to use our wiki as research for their assignment (or as a basis to do their own project on online dating) they can see where our short comings came from.

 

Conclusion:  All of this work, what did we discover to be the answer to our question?

Bibliography:  Although there are many links and sources throughout our wiki, here we have chosen to bring those sources together.  This page excludes bibliographys on videos (from the Commercials/Advertising section, as well as our main video which was created by us).

 

Class Blog: Interested in where our group found indepth readings on technology? Interested in seeing what our class had to read throughout the semester to help us gain understanding of the vast cultures represented throughout the internet? Then this is the place to stimulate your brain, and help you find links to some of our sources that are listed in our bibliography.

 

Group Wiki: This is a link to our group wiki which you can find other assignments we were involved in dealing with the internet and exploration, as well as the rough skeleton of the beginnings of our project.  By looking at the rough skeleton, you can discover that we changed our main question and tried to expand our research as an attempt to explore multiple facets of our topic.

 

 

Class Wiki: This is a link to our class wiki, where you can find what our class worked on throughout the Spring 2009 semester.  It represents our growth in using SecondLife, Wikis, understanding of the different cultures represented on the internet, as well as connecting what we discovered and learned on the internet to the world that we live in.
